Making emergency calls on your switched-on dates
Great care is being taken to make switched-on a safe process, and we’ve been working closely with the emergency and critical services.
What happens to emergency calls on my switched-on dates?
We will ensure that calls in progress to the emergency services will not be cut off when you’re switched-on.
However, if the work is already in progress you won’t be able to make a call for a short period. The interruptions to your phone service mean that you will be unable to make outbound calls for up to three minutes or receive incoming calls for up to 30 minutes when phone services are switched-on, and for up to ten minutes when broadband services are switched-on.
Mobile phones will not be directly affected, so make a note to have your mobile phone charged. If your mobile phone is on a pay-as-you-go service, make sure it has credit on your switched-on dates, in case you need to make a call while we are switching over your services.
Remember, service interruptions will be very brief and will mostly take place overnight.
What about services like Childline and the Samaritans?
In addition to 999 and 112, some other services are considered critical to public safety.
They include the text direct number 18000, the single non-emergency number 101, ChildLine, the Samaritans and gas escape reporting.
We’re working with these organisations to make sure calls in progress won’t be affected.
